Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use heliotempo.com, why, and what your rights are. Heliotempo is designed to collect as little data as possible.

Who is responsible

The controller responsible for this website is Maja Dobnik Kočevar, Maribor, Slovenia. Contact: hello@heliotempo.com. Further details are in the legal notice.

Data processed on every visit

Hosting. The website is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc., USA). When you load a page, your browser sends technical data such as your IP address, the requested address, date and time, and browser information. GitHub processes this data to deliver the site and to protect it against abuse, as described in the GitHub Privacy Statement. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Map and terrain tiles. When you use a map, your browser loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap and, in the 3D view, terrain tiles from Mapterhorn. These services receive your IP address and the requested map area, as with any web request. They do not set cookies. Legal basis: legitimate interest in showing the map you asked for (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your location

  • Place search runs in your browser on data delivered with the site. What you type is not sent to Heliotempo or any other service.
  • “Use my location” asks your browser for your position. The coordinates are used only in your browser to calculate the results and to find the nearest town and time zone, from files served by Heliotempo. They are not sent to us. If you share a link, the coordinates of the selected place are part of that link.
  • Estimated location. Without asking for permission, the tools pick a place in your time zone (for example Ljubljana for the time zone Europe/Ljubljana). This uses only the time zone setting of your browser.

Data stored in your browser

Heliotempo stores a few settings in your browser’s local storage: your privacy choices, theme, units, clock format, preferred language and last selected place. They never leave your device. You can delete them at any time by clearing the site data in your browser. See the cookie policy for a full list.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

With your consent where the law requires it, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. It helps us understand which tools and pages are used, so we can improve them. Google Analytics uses cookies and processes information such as pages visited, approximate location derived from the IP address (which Google Analytics 4 does not store), device and browser type, and interactions with the tools (for example that a tool was used or a calendar file was downloaded). We never send coordinates, place names you typed or other personal details to Google Analytics.

We use Google Consent Mode. In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are only set after you accept them in the privacy banner. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). In other regions, analytics is enabled by default and you can turn it off at any time under “Privacy settings” at the bottom of every page.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Heliotempo is funded by advertising delivered by Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited). Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings.
  • More information: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
  • In the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising cookies are only used with your consent, collected through a consent management platform certified by Google. Without consent, only non-personalised or limited ads may be shown. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Transfers outside the EU

Google and GitHub may process data in the United States. Both participate in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, on the basis of which the European Commission has found an adequate level of data protection; in addition, standard contractual clauses apply.

How long data is kept

Settings in your browser stay until you delete them. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Hosting logs are kept by GitHub according to its own policy. Emails you send to us are kept as long as needed to answer them and then deleted, unless the law requires us to keep them.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future (“Privacy settings” at the bottom of every page). To exercise these rights, write to hello@heliotempo.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Slovenia this is the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia (Informacijski pooblaščenec), Dunajska cesta 22, 1000 Ljubljana, www.ip-rs.si.

Residents of US states with privacy laws

Heliotempo does not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies can count as “sharing” for targeted advertising under some US state laws. You can opt out at any time with “Your privacy choices” (or “Privacy settings”) at the bottom of every page, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals where required.

Children

Heliotempo is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
