About the sun in Maribor
Maribor sits on the Drava river at the foot of the Pohorje hills, which rise to the south-west. In winter the low afternoon sun sets behind Pohorje, so the town loses direct sunlight noticeably earlier than the calculated sunset. In summer the sun sets in the north-west, behind the Kozjak hills. Maribor has the same Central European Time as Ljubljana but lies about one degree further east, so its sun events are about five minutes earlier.
