About the sun in Ljubljana
Ljubljana lies in a basin between the Julian Alps and the Karst, so the actual sunrise and sunset are often a few minutes later and earlier than the calculated times, especially in winter when the sun rises and sets far to the south-east and south-west. Autumn and winter mornings are known for fog in the basin: on those days the sun can be hidden for hours while the surrounding hills are in bright sunshine. For sunset views over the city and the Alps, Ljubljana Castle and Rožnik hill face west and north-west.
